Kate Schultz {Local Love}

1/31/2019

Happy Thursday Everyone!
We sure are looking forward to the weekend and bet y'all are too! Today we wanted to share a little bit about a local artist whose work leaves us breathless every time. Kate Freeman Schultz is incredibly talented and her pieces bring such a brightness to any space. We are so inspired by Kate's talent and think that y'all will be as well!
Kate Freeman Schultz’s incredible creativity becomes tangible when she transfers her bright visions onto a blank canvas. A Jackson, Mississippi native, Kate realized her passion for art while taking art classes in high school. “I wasn’t the best at academics but man did I love and ace every single art class!” laughs Kate. To develop her technique, Kate began taking private art classes from Bob Tompkins while still in high school. Under his guidance, Kate began working with oils to capture a broad range of subjects, from still life to complex nature scenes.  Kate graduated from the University of Mississippi with a Bachelor in Fine Arts with an emphasis in Painting. Currently, Kate lives in Jackson with her husband and fellow artist Justin Schultz.

    Kate’s artwork has an undeniable joyful quality, making her pieces perfect for brightening up any space in your home. Inspired primarily by the incredible uniqueness of complex floral arrangements, Kate emulates the movement, colors, and texture of the arrangements in her paintings. Her pieces contain layers of colors and shapes that converge into a stunning image. Her work is the transformation of an ordinary subject matter into a complex depiction of depth and character. Kate’s work functions as a mirror for her passion, “art comes from the depths of your soul and can be so incredibly powerful. It’s a truly amazing way to express yourself. Art lifts me up and makes me truly happy,” smiles Kate.

.Though florals and whimsical botanicals have been her focus for the past two years, Kate has begun to explore painting abstracts that reflect the endless movement of water. “I recently traveled to Northern California for my honeymoon. I was so inspired by the water there. It was like nothing I had ever seen, the colors were breathtaking, absolutely magical!” Kate’s artwork is available for purchase on her website www.kateschultzart.com. Kate also does custom commissioned pieces by request. Keep up with her latest releases by following her on Instagram @katefschultz

Biggest Bridal Fashion Trends in 2019 {Insider Inspiration}

1/23/2019

Happy Thursday y’all!
We hope that your week has gone smoothly! We also hope that you’ve had the chance to get your hands on the newest edition of Inspiration Mississippi magazine! Make sure to snag yourself a copy when you see it around town.

Wedding season is coming up right around the bend and we are so lucky to have fashion experts on call for y’all! Audrey Jarvis of The Bridal Path, took some time to talk to us about the biggest trends of this new year! The Bridal Path, located in Banner Hall in Jackson, is the Mississippi bride’s one stop shop for everything bridal; from the gown to the accessories, Audrey and her team have you covered!

The Bridal Path is proud to carry a wide range of both sizes and price points to accommodate every bride. The staff is knowledgeable and will take their time to ensure you feel like the most beautiful version of yourself on your big day!

{What trends do you think will dominate bridal this year?}
    As you all know, the holidays bring lots of engagements! With the holiday season coming to a close, we’ve had lots of newly engaged brides stop in The Bridal Path with fresh ideas! Each bride is unique and wants a different look for their big day, but we have seen an overarching theme of elegant simplicity with many brides. After all, who wasn’t inspired by Meghan Markle’s jaw-dropping, boat neck, simple gown?
    Having gone to market this past fall, it was clear that many of the top designers in the industry were similarly inspired! I think we will see this trend for a while, and I’m not sad about it! Some specific trends include clean lines, satin and other simple fabrics, and eye-catching accents such as big bows, bold lace, and intricate embellishments.

{What about trends in bridesmaids and mother of the bride/groom dresses?}
     One change we have noticed in bridesmaid’s dresses are fashion-forward styles that are accommodating to all shapes and sizes have become extremely popular.  We love this shift to flattering necklines and fits because it is resulting in a bridal party that looks so chic!

   We’re also seeing a modernization of  Mother of the Bride/Groom styles. There’s a shift away from a traditional matronly look and towards a more classic, timeless vibe.

     One thing we are most excited about is the expanding color options for bridesmaids gowns. More and more designers are offering more color options; it’s dream come true! Lastly, bridesmaid dresses have become such a fun way for the bride to express her own personal style. The variety of materials designers are now offering make this decision a more unique one than it has ever been. Whether she wants sequins, satin, crepe, or lace, she can find the right dress for her best girls.

{Are there are any specific pieces you're really excited about having in store?}
    Such a hard question! Everyday we receive a UPS package, it’s like Christmas morning! One of our favorite lines at market this fall was the new season of Theia. We are especially excited to finally have those in the store! I am also excited to have more simple, satin dresses for good prices since those are so popular this season. We are also delighted to carry more size-inclusive samples so everyone can try lots of things on!

{What about trends in accessorizing specifically?}
Our favorite thing about accessories is the way a bride’s personality shines through them! As far as trends go, we are loving bridal CAPES! That’s right I said capes! They are beautiful because they give the dramatic effect of a veil and if you choose to take it off for the reception, you have a new look! We also love two-sided earrings and head pieces that coordinate with earrings. For our winter brides – wraps and pashminas give the most dreamy, wintery touch!

{What piece of advice would you offer to someone that has no idea what kind of dress they might want for their wedding day?}

Do not stress! It is usually best to come into your appointment with an open mind anyway! We will try all different fits and styles so you can figure out what you want amongst it all! I always want my brides to feel like the most beautiful version of themselves. This is the dress you will become a WIFE in after all! It so common for brides to leave in something different than what they originally wanted so, it is more than okay to come in having no idea where to start! That’s what we’re here for!

An intense love for family was also a driving force behind many of the planning decisions. "From the beginning, Borden and I always said we wanted every detail to reflect our personalities. Everything from the flowers to the s'mores bar outside was thought to capture a feeling of winter, the joy of family, and our pure love," smiles Hannah.

Kate McElroy was crowned the Queen to Zeus LXXVIII as a part of the larger Krewe of Zeus Mardi Gras celebration in Hattiesburg. This event, The Queen’s Royal Festival, was held in Kate’s honor at the Jackie Dole Community Center in Hattiesburg. Inspired by the desire to bring a true New Orleans party to Hattiesburg, the space was transformed into a French Quarter courtyard. Through a use of hedges, murals, and stunning structural elements like the Gazebo in the main room, Kate’s guests were transported to the Big Easy for the celebration.

Grace Ann Agostinelli and Casey Mayne were determined to make their Clarksdale wedding a celebration that was as unique as they are. The couple wed in St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, the bride’s childhood place of worship. “So many special moments have taken place in St. Elizabeth’s, I could not imagine having our ceremony anywhere else,” smiles Grace Ann.  Whimsical florals inspired by Grace Ann’s love for wildflowers took the event outside the realm of tradition. The couple imparted their own personal style by incorporating a custom monogram into different elements of the celebration. “One of my favorite moments from my wedding day was when Casey and I were walked through the reception before the guests arrived. After nine months of planning it was absolutely wonderful to be able to appreciate it all.  Thanks to the vendors we used, everything was so beautiful , unique, and perfect, we could not have been happier,” smiles Grace Ann.

    The couple incorporated a unique family heirloom into their celebration. “The cake topper we used was used by both my parents and my grandparents before them!” says Grace Ann. The bride also wrapped her grandmother’s handkerchief around her bouquet and wore her garter. “My grandparents are so incredibly special to me. It meant the world to have their things be a part of my own wedding day,” smiles Grace Ann.
