With a neutral canvas topped with pops of color, piles of pillows and cozy textures, Kim Rogers of Persnickety created her son’s perfect haven. “The design is cowboy and Indian. I loved mixing Pendleton Indian blankets with modern colors. The John Deere green side table is exactly that color, John Deere Green,” she smiles. “The striped bedding adds a modern touch to the white and black geometric rug, and all of the pictures are family photographs and drawings.” Rogers beautifully blended the room with new and old pieces. For the second year in a row, people are going Over the Edge with friends, Friends of Children’s Hospital that is! Edgers, those that are going over the edge, will rappel down the 14 story Trustmark Corporate Office building tomorrow Saturday, April 22nd beginning at 8:00 a.m. Did you know that April 1st is International Pillow Fight Day? And how, might you ask, do you celebrate International Pillow Fight Day? By donating a new pillow to the Salvation Army! Many of you did just that on April 1st right here in Jackson. Inspiration Mississippi was thrilled to partner with The Salvation Army, Anjou, Amerigo, CHAR, Saltine and Sombra to celebrate our third annual Pillow Donation Day!
The pillows were donated to the Salvation Army of Jackson to provide a Mississippian with a comfortable place to sleep. Donors received a $5 coupon to participating restaurants for each donation made. New pillows for those in need and a discount on your meal is a win-win for everyone involved! “The donated pillows will be used in our shelter, the Center for Hope,” said Rosalind Yarber, Director of Social Services. The Center for Hope is a shelter that houses men and women, 18 years old and older. It is operated entirely by donations whether that be food, clothing, bed linens, towels, personal hygiene products, etc. “We are so appreciative of the pillows that were donated,” smiles Yarber. The shelter is open year around daily from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. It serves to give residents a hand up, not a hand out. Residents not only get a place to lay their head, they take part in many of the services that are available to assist them. “Our case managers work with residents to guide them and assist them in becoming productive members of society,” continues Yarber. They assist residents in finding and applying for jobs and also applying for various grants to help with temporary housing and also vouchers for food, clothing, and furniture. They also offer GED classes to the public and to residents through a partnership with Jackson Public Schools. The Salvation Army’s motto, “Doing the Most Good” is evident in everything they do right here in Jackson. Their mission is to serve others – every day. You can be a part of the “good” they are doing by volunteering, partnering with them in their various programs and giving financially to help them with their mission.
