​Happy Friday y’all! It is finally that time of year where we get to talk about an event that is has been a favorite to all for years and always bring so much joy to the community! In just five short days, the Mississippi State Fair will be returning from October 5th until October 15th.
 
The Mississippi State Fair has been coming to Jackson for years up years and continues to surprise the whole community with all of the fun and unique that make up the fair itself. Advanced tickets are on presale now and can be purchased at the Coliseum Box Office until 11:00 A.M. on October the 5th.  Advanced admission includes six tickets along with a parking pass, which is a $35.00 value but only going for $25.00.
 
If you are unable to prepurchase your tickets or decide to go last minute, general admission is only $5.00 and can be bought at the entry gates of the fair.  Children under five years old will receive free admission throughout the entire event. Transportation will also be provided for only $4.00 a person or there will be serval parking lots surrounding the fair grounds. However, admission will be free for all ages form 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M during the week only!
 
The Mississippi State Fair will consist of not only exciting and thrilling rides but there will be tons of delicious food and food trucks along with live entertainment. Josh Turner, Cupid Line Dance Experience, Ernest, and The Commodores are a few of the artists who will be performing at the Coliseum. There will also be exhibits including an antique car show, a floral show, a food preservation show, and an arts and crafts show. There is something for all ages and all interest so making the Mississippi State Fair a family-friendly event for everyone.
 
Gates to the fair will be open form 11:00 A.M. during the week, 9:00 A.M on Saturdays, and 10:00 A.M. on Sundays. Gates will close at midnight Monday through Saturday and will close at 10:00 P.M. on Sundays. Each day is jammed-packed with a full schedule of activities, exhibits, and entertainment along with vendors being open throughout the entire day. Happy Thursday y’all! Today I wanted to share with everyone about an event that is not only for a good cause but is a fan favorite in the Jackson metro area! Extra Table is hosting their 3rd annual Bourbon Festival, benefiting local food panties and soup kitchens across the State of Mississippi. Extra Table is a non-profit organization that was created in 2009 by a well-known restauranteur, Robert St. John, as a way to stock up food pantries and soup kitchens with healthy and nutritious food.
 
This year’s Bourbon Festival will be held at The Reed House at Live Oaks Golf Club in Jackson, MS on Thursday October 19th. Extra Table is partnering up with Jamie Farris and Lincoln Road Package Store to provide almost 125 different bourbons to sip on and savor. There will also be an incredible HighWest Distillery Charity Barrel, amazing silent auction items, and live entertainment throughout the night. Glowing ice cubes in custom etched-out bourbon glasses will be available at the event along with bartenders competing to make the best cocktail with Old Soul Bourbon! And to top it all off, there will be a featured menu that is to be paired with bourbon and a s’mores bar to end the night!
 
Extra Table’s Bourbon Festival truly is an event that you do not want to miss, however, tickets must be purchased prior to the event. VIP ticket-goers must arrive at 5:30 and general admission arrive after 6:30. Tickets to Bourbon Festival make for a perfect early Christmas present and do sell out very fast so make sure to act fast it is sold out!

​Happy Friday!! With October just being a few short weeks away, I wanted to share with everyone about an event that will be taking place at Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS. On October 14th, The Central Mississippi Down Syndrome Society will be hosting their 21st annual Buddy Walk!
 
The 2023 Buddy Walk will host over 1,500 participants that will form teams in honor of their buddies. This year’s theme will be “Buddies Under the Big Top” and will not only consist of a group walk, but there will also be games, lunch, entertainment, and a raffle prize at the end!
 
The Buddy Walk originated in 1995 as a way to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month which is in October! The idea behind the walk was to raise awareness and to create a safe place of inclusion for kids and adults with Down Syndrome. Today, there are more than 300 walks nationwide and more than $12 million is raised every year worldwide to support any and all local programs.
 
The Central Mississippi Down Syndrome Society was created to provide support, education, and advocacy for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families. The Central Mississippi Down Syndrome Society offers an endless number of activities and classes for individuals like dance and art classes along with other fun things game nights. The CMDSS also offers educational seminars and support groups for new and current parents to ensure that no one feels alone and can always have someone to lean on.
