Mike Espy: Personal Trainer for Any Level

6/30/2020

Picture
When you think of all the amazing athletic talent that has come out of Mississippi, Mike Espy is absolutely a name that sticks out at the top of that list. Mike played football at Madison Central High School where they memorably had a 15-0 season and won the State Championship in 1999. He then went on to play at the University of Mississippi, Ole Miss, alongside team members like Eli Manning. Mike went on to play professionally for three years as a wide receiver for the Washington Redskins.
After getting injured playing for the Washington Redskins,
Mike had a decision to make. "When the phone wasn't ringing, I knew that I had to either work out for a living hoping to try and get on a team or use my brain and make a living." he recalls. Mike knew that his love for helping people and want to give back to the community would lead to his career now. As an athlete, Mike traveled outside of Mississippi to get the kind of professional training that he now provides. His certifications include USAW, CPT, PES, and he's working on his CSCS. "I love for people to come to me with goals and we tackle them together. I love watching my athletes pursue their dreams. People don't really know about the blood, sweat and tears it takes to making dreams a reality. It's gratifying and satisfying to see it come to fruition." smiles Mike.
When asked about living and working in Mississippi, Mike said "I love Mississippi. This is my state, my home. I love giving back to the community for which I'm from, helping expand kid's minds to letting them know it's a bigger world out there."

Fondren Renaissance hosted "Dining on Duling" over the weekend with an incredible street mural in the middle of one it's busiest streets.  It brought together the community, helped out the local restaurants and created fellowship in the middle of a pandemic. The meaning behind the gorgeous art is just as inspiring as the pictures of it.
The name of the project is titled "Common Ground". This is the artist's statement regarding it: "Common Ground is designed to be an energetic invitation to the public to participate in the communal activity of dining in a space usually reserved for vehicular traffic. This mural visually transforms one of Fondren’s most bustling streets, reaching a wide audience of public viewers. Functionally, the ground mural assists in the practice of social distancing guidelines related to COVID-19. The mural acts as an extended outdoor space for local Fondren restaurants to utilize as they limit their capacity indoors. The bright grid is composed of 8’ x 8’ squares, making it easy to gauge the distance between peers, while still enjoying community and food. This ground mural emphasizes the importance of community and recovery during a season of social distress. Common Ground evokes the restorative power of relationships that sprout as a result of southern food culture."
