             Is the family looking for a fun activity this holiday season? Well, mark your calendars for Journey to the North Pole at the Mississippi Children’s Museum happening November 22- January 2! 
          Journey to the North Pole is an immersive experience in the Gertrude C. Ford Exhibition Hall where it has been transformed into a magical winter village of twinkling lights and train cars. Only a few feet from the entrance into the exhibit will also be a 45-foot slide down the center staircase of the museum called the Snowflake Slide! How cool!?
           The Eudora Welty Poarch is temporarily closed, and it will reopen on November 22 as an exciting new addition to Journey to the North Pole- even more of a reason to check out the exhibit this year! 
        Clara Williams, Digital Media and Website Coordinator for the museum, said this event is perfect for the whole family.
            “I think what’s really special about this event is that it’s suitable to children of all ages. Small children can play in the winter village, enjoy a smaller slide, and write letters to Santa, while the older children can take a ride down the Snowflake Slide, which is suitable for children over 36” tall. The Reindeer Rink is also fun for any age, which is a slick surface that kids can slide around on with their socks!”
            See below for everything that’s included with a ticket for this exhibit. Also, this is the first year the museum has scheduled dates for Santa’s arrival, so see below for those dates and times.

During Journey to the North Pole, guests will explore our holiday village which includes:

• Magical train cars built for students to create their own holiday journey
• Child size post office to mail and sort their holiday letters and packages
• Journey to the North Pole clock tower where children can turn gears to change the time on the clock, and try out our new slide
• Holiday train table with toy trains and moveable village elements
• Letter writing station to pen their letter to Santa and learn about addressing a letter
• The Reindeer Rink sock skating rink (MUST bring socks for this experience)
• Taking a ride down the Snowflake slide (MUST be at least 36” tall for this experience)

               HIS Heart is an inner-city ministry to the children, youth, and families of the West Park neighborhoods of Jackson, Mississippi. They are the community ministry of Calvary Baptist Church at 1300 W. Capitol Street.  In the mid 90s, Calvary’s members chose to remain at their current location, though many churches in the area were moving into the suburbs of Jackson at that time.  The mission of the church was, and remains to this day, to establish relationships with the families and children of the community for the purpose of enriching their lives through love, faith, hope, and friendship.  HIS Heart has been a non-profit ministry of the church since 2003. They are housed in the church, and many of their ministries happen inside the walls of the church.  When the church stepped out of its walls to reach beyond itself, the real purpose of the church was revealed.
                This Thanksgiving season, HIS Heart Ministries is having a canned food drive and asking for donations for inner-city families in Jackson. You can drop off canned good at Gift by KPEP located in the Renaissance across from Libby Story and next to Anthony Vince Nail Salon. If you would like to donate money, the money will be used to purchase a turkey for these families to eat for the holiday. Donations will be accepted now until November 21st.
           If you would like to serve in other ways, they are in need of volunteer tutors, mentors, Bible study leaders, teachers, and helpers. Their Fall schedule is listed below.

​Sunday afternoons (twice a month): 
Tutoring and Youth Bible Study on September 5th and 26th, October 10th and 24th, November 14th and 28th, December 12th from 12:30 until 4:30pm at Calvary Baptist Church.  Tutors may come any time between 12:30 and 4:30 pm on these Sundays as long as we know in advance. 
 
Sunday afternoons (once a month):
Bible Club for K-12th graders – held on September 19th, October 17th, November 7th, and December 5th from 2:00 until 4:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church 
 
Monday afternoons from September 13th to December 6th:
Tutoring for K-2nd grade from 3:30 to 4:15 pm 
Bible Club for K-2nd graders from 4:15 to 5:00 pm 
 
Tuesday afternoons from September 14th to December 7th:
Tutoring for 3rd-5th graders from 3:30 to 4:30 pm 
Bible Club for 3rd-5th graders from 4:30 to 5:30 pm 
 
Apartment Ministry / Prayerwalks - every other Wednesday from September 29th - December 1st 3:00-4:30 pm
