{How did the two of you meet?}
Emily and Bobby are avid gym goers and passed each other with friendly smiles (while ears were occupied by headphones and music flow) over several years. The specific location was Northeast Courthouse Racquet Club in Jackson, MS. Suddenly, one day Bobby decided to break the friendly, muted acknowledgements with a proposal… of possible drinks. That late spring day in 2012, numbers were exchanged, but no date was made. Days passed and a few texts were received, but it wasn’t until Bobby competed in a bodybuilding competition held at the Thalia Mara Theater in downtown Jackson that a true connection was made. Emily was impressed. The next day the two had an enticing date over frozen yogurt, and the rest is history.
{What is your proposal story?}
Bobby proposed to Emily on a Boyd family Thanksgiving trip to Napa Valley. He chose the last day of the trip for several reasons. Two of Emily’s closest friends who live in California were coming to tour wineries that day and he knew Emily would love for them to be there to celebrate. Also, the last wine tasting was to be at the home of Mike Drash, who makes Tallulah Wines. Mike is originally from Mississippi. Bobby made contact with him when he purchased a bottle of Tallulah wine for his soon-to-be father-in-law. When he found out that the winemaker was from Mississippi, he called him and set up a tasting.
The family had a wonderful tasting at Tallulah on the back porch of the Drash’s charming downtown Napa home . Just outside the front door of the home is a lovely vine covered arbor . As soon as the family had walked through at the end of the tasting, Bobby got everyone’s attention and dropped down to one knee. He proposed to Emily ! She said yes! Mike Drash went inside and grabbed champagne and glasses for the entire group! It was an exciting day!
{What inspired your wedding and reception locations?}
Bobby is an Ole Miss graduate and avid Ole Miss fan. Most of Emily’s family attended Ole Miss. Her dad proposed to her mom at Rowan Oak (Faulkner’s home in Oxford). Her brother proposed to his wife on campus. The family has come to Ole Miss sporting events for years. Bobby and Emily wanted to do something different - a destination wedding, but not too far away.
{What inspired your color scheme/theme/flowers?}
Emily loves deep purple and when Wendy Putt showed her combinations of flowers, she was confident that was the look she wanted.
{How did you pick “the dress?”}
Emily spent one day looking and trying on dresses before she was ready to purchase. But when she came to the Bridal Path, she was ready to find THE dress. She loved several styles, but when she put on the one she chose, she just knew! It made her feel like a princess! It was evident on her face and the way she walked. The family knew it was “The One!”
{What’s your favorite unique accessory? Is there a story behind it?}
Bobby’s mother, Mary McNair, constructed the veil. It was a labor of love and was the finishing touch for the beautiful gown.
{What was your favorite part of the wedding planning process?}
Emily’s favorite part of the wedding planning process was getting to work with such a talented team of people who used their skills to make their day special and personal to who they are as a couple.
{Besides the actual wedding, what was your favorite moment of the wedding day?}
Emily’s favorite moment of the day was walking toward Bobby for the first look with the glorious fall colors all around, and the anticipation of a fun night ahead, celebrating with loved ones.
