Many people are familiar with Georgia Blue the restaurant but we wanted to make sure y'all knew about their amazing bakery. The Georgia Blue Bakery is the perfect place to grab breakfast with your favorite people and pick up delicious sweet treats that taste like they came right out of your grandmother's kitchen! At the heart of Georgia Blue Bakery is southern hospitality and a genuine love for bringing joy to customers occasion after occasion. With locations in both Brandon and Brookhaven, the bakery is the perfect place to gather for breakfast or lunch. Influenced by the warmth of southern cooking, Georgia Blue Bakery’s menu is studded with comfort classics that are sure to put a smile on your face. Becky Walden, the executive pastry chef at Georgia Blue Bakery, is incredibly passionate about helping customers create memories with their family and loved ones. Driven by a deep appreciation for family, the bakery aims to help families all over the state celebrate every occasion. Becky adds, “Georgia Blue is a family brand and we really do care about each other; our team feels like an extension of my family. Everything that we do in the bakery is a team effort; between the executive chef Trey, our head decorator Donna Cooley, and myself ,we are able to collaborate to bring a customer’s vision to life. Every single piece we make is a group effort, nothing could be accomplished without all of our individual skills and talents coming together!” Even the recipes are rich with history. The incredible cheesecake is Trey’s grandmother’s original recipe. The cheesecake is topped with delicious seasonal toppings and served by the slice at all Georgia Blue locations. Becky never strays away from returning to family recipes to create the timeless treats that transport everyone back to their own childhood. You can pick up lemon bars, brownies, cookies, and other baked goods from the dessert case to enjoy with a gourmet coffee. The bakery can also help you create the most amazing wedding cake for your big day, making Georgia Blue a one stop shop for all your wedding needs considering their catering is always delicious.

One of our favorite things about Spring in Mississippi is how many things there are to do throughout the state. This weekend, the 24th annual Double Decker Arts Festival in Oxford, is kicking off. This festival is family friendly, has something for everyone, and makes an excellent day trip if you're in need of a mini vacation. Keep reading for more details and make sure to check out their website for all the information you need on Double Decker! This weekend, April 26-27, over 65,000 people will gather for the 24th annual Double Decker Arts Festival in Oxford. This family friendly festival is held on the iconic Courthouse Square. Double Decker has won more than 25 awards, including the honor of “Best Festival” by Mississippi Magazine in addition of being named a “Top 20 Event” by the Southeast Tourism Society. Double Decker has something to delight everyone. “A Southern showcase – from mouthwatering bites to inspiring art –Like any respected Southern tradition, the festival has grown while preserving its original integrity. Tried and true tasty temptations, from snow cones to roast beef sandwiches to pizza by the slice, all from local vendors - many offering a specialty item that can only be found during the event – satisfy hunger pangs. An artist showcase is regulated by the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council which selects the jury from a panel of local artists, bringing more than 130 art vendors to the event, spanning a variety of media including drawings, glass, jewelry, mixed media, painting, photography, print making and sculpture.” Double Decker is absolutely the place to find that next great piece of art you’ve been looking for to complete a space in your home. In addition to delicious food and amazing art, Double Decker’s lineup this year is sure to put on an amazing show. Today, on the blog, we're talking HOPE! Insert Mia Nasif... the very definition of inspiring. Mia is six years old and has a rare neurogenetic disorder affecting her ability to stand, walk, speak, learn and regulate emotions. She is 1 of 14 in the WORLD with this rare disease. It is so rare and so new that it doesn't even have a name yet. What does that mean? It means that you start from ground zero... Mia's parents, doctors and research scientists have spent the past six years searching for answers, trying to diagnose the underlying genetic cause of Mia's condition. There are so many unknowns BUT progress is being made... giving her parents HOPE and a mission. (Read more here.) Progress? Mia's team of research scientists are busy working to get the first paper written and published on Mia's condition. THIS IS HUGE! Once it's published, it goes out to all of the neurologist in the world! That is one giant step towards finding other families with similar symptoms and disorders, more doctors and scientists, more brainpower "in the room", and hope that a diagnosis will follow... opening doors to treatment options. What can WE do? Mia's friends, family, church and community have all joined hands in putting together the MIATHON... a rowing marathon that will take place this Saturday, April 27th. It will begin at 8:00am at Coyoto Crossfit in Madison, MS. Athletes will row an entire marathon... over 40,000 meters that will take around 4 hours to complete! This is by design... when it's "too tough" "too long" "too impossible", we row on for Mia because she rows all day, every day of her life!
You can sign up individually or as a team of two. Can't row? No problem; there are options to donate or become a sponsor. As of today, there are around 30 rowers. Y'all, this is incredible! Let's grow that number, share this story, pray for Mia and her family, and join their mission! Tickets and more information can be found here: www.miathon.com |
