The pillows were donated to the Salvation Army of Jackson to provide a Mississippian with a comfortable place to sleep. Donors received a $5 coupon to participating restaurants for each donation made. New pillows for those in need and a discount on your meal is a win-win for everyone involved!
“The donated pillows will be used in our shelter, the Center for Hope,” said Rosalind Yarber, Director of Social Services. The Center for Hope is a shelter that houses men and women, 18 years old and older. It is operated entirely by donations whether that be food, clothing, bed linens, towels, personal hygiene products, etc. “We are so appreciative of the pillows that were donated,” smiles Yarber. The shelter is open year around daily from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. It serves to give residents a hand up, not a hand out. Residents not only get a place to lay their head, they take part in many of the services that are available to assist them. “Our case managers work with residents to guide them and assist them in becoming productive members of society,” continues Yarber. They assist residents in finding and applying for jobs and also applying for various grants to help with temporary housing and also vouchers for food, clothing, and furniture. They also offer GED classes to the public and to residents through a partnership with Jackson Public Schools.
The Salvation Army’s motto, “Doing the Most Good” is evident in everything they do right here in Jackson. Their mission is to serve others – every day. You can be a part of the “good” they are doing by volunteering, partnering with them in their various programs and giving financially to help them with their mission. Once again, Mississippians showed how generous they are through our third annual Pillow Donation Day and we want to say “Thank you!” from the team at Inspiration Mississippi!
