CARA stands for Community Animal Rescue & Adoption and is located right here in Jackson, MS. CARA is a non-profit organization orchestrated by volunteers, board members, and part-time shelter employees. CARA is solely supported by private donors and businesses in the area.
For over 20 years, CARA has been saving and sheltering cats and dogs in Mississippi and continue to do so every year. They have partnered with nationally recognized animal advocates, like Best Friends Animal Society, improve and better their practices within the shelter. Their goal is to expand their facility while saving more lives of animals and finding them a safe and happy home!

As a volunteer, you can participate in all fundraising events, distributing donated materials and supplies, volunteering at the shelter, and transporting pets to and from appointments.
