Billy Martinson, the owner and founder, started Green Oak in 1960 after he had graduated from Mississippi State university with a degree in horticulture. They also recently opened a second location located in Ridgeland, which includes a gift shop and experienced florists.
In 1990, Karen McKie started Green Oak’s Colorscape Department, which is one of their largest departments. Karen and her crew create some of the most unique designs by using plant material in different ways for that “roadside wow” effect. The colorscape experts at Green Oak use long lasting and low maintenance plants to make the most out of their clients’ budgets. Their clients receive seasonal color changes on a regular basis using a wide range of plants to perform in our climate. Notices are given out seasonally to inform clients’ that it will soon be time to change the color while also recommending varieties. The main goal is to create a wow factor using high performance plants.
The Interiorscpaing Department at Green Oak provides interior plant design, installation, and maintenance for commercial accounts in the Jackson metro area. They constantly have a large supply of fresh interior plants along with decorative pots to choose from for all styles. Interior plant designers visit each site to assess the space with an account manager. They then send over a proposal regarding details, plants, pricing, plant maintenance options, information on installation, and the option to lease or purchase everything. The main goal of the Interiorscape Department is to enhance the interior space by maintaining and providing beautiful plants.
