Highschool sweethearts and Clarksdale natives, Meri Claire and Derek knew that their hometown was the only place for their celebration. "We never considered getting married anywhere but our hometown," smiles Meri Claire. Aiming to do something a little different, the couple chose to have their reception in a space that once was Derek's elementary school gymnasium. The Norman Brown Commons Building provided a wide, open space that was largely customizable. "Our vendors transformed the space into an absolute fairy tale. Derek and I were in awe of the perfectly stunning room. The transformation was truly phenomenal and unique," says Meri Claire. The space was elevated by hanging floral wreaths that added the perfect wow-factor. "We wanted our wedding to be memorable not just for us but for our guests as well," says Derek. INSPIRING DETAILS: The bride was adamant about keeping their love for Christ at the center of their wedding ceremony. Through careful selection of scripture and music it was made certain that the ceremony felt like a worship experience for their guests. Guests participated in a Christ Candle Ceremony in which Meri Claire and Derek spread the light from the Christ Candle to all of their guests. "My heart was overflowing as the sanctuary slowly filled with candle light. The light of Christ was filling the sanctuary and surrounding all of us there. I will never forget this amazing sight nor the love that I felt at that moment from and for my Lord and for my husband," smiles Meri Claire.
