We are counting down the days until Mistletoe Marketplace 2021. So we thought we’d share a few of our favorite things about Mistletoe

  1. Shop till you drop. Mistletoe is a 3-day shopping event that has a little something for everyone from art to clothing to home goods and just about everything in between.
  2. 41 years young. Mistletoe is a legacy event that has become like a family tradition! The Junior League of Jackson launched the very first Mistletoe Marketplace in 1981.
  3. The decor. This year’s theme is “Oh What Fun!” and we know we’ll be walking through a holiday wonderland filled with jaw-dropping photo ops and major Christmas decor inspo.
  4. SOFT sweatshirts! Mistletoe has their very own merchandise each year, and y’all the hoodies are the most comfortable things you’ll ever own. You can purchase yours here.
  5. Over 100 vendors. You know how we mentioned that there’s a little something for everyone? Well, the 100+ vendors are definitely a testimony to that!
  6. Safe + Sanitized. The Junior League of Jackson has worked hard to assure the safest, most fun shopping experience for you at Mistletoe Marketplace. From improved COVID safety guidelines, added sanitizing stations, and virtual options—like the great auction—the health and safety of guests, participants, and volunteers is JLJ’s number one priority.
  7. Mistletoe Marketplace Cares. Not only is Mistletoe an epic shopping event, but it’s also an epic shopping event that gives back to the community. All funds raised at Mistletoe stay in the Jackson metro area, and the League’s financial impact is leveraged with more than 55,000 volunteer hours contributed annually by our membership. Every contribution toward the fundraising efforts of Mistletoe Marketplace directly supports the mission of the Junior League of Jackson. That means every Friend of Mistletoe donation, each ticket sold, and every t-shirt purchased allows the League to financially support more than 30 community projects in the areas of Children’s Health, Early Literacy, and Social Development, each with the primary goal of improving high school graduation rates.  Just take our money already!

So what are you waiting for? Tickets are on sale now! Clear your schedule, purchase a ticket for you and your girls, and get to Mistletoe Marketplace on November 3-6, 2021.

When it comes to fall and Mississippi, we can’t help but think of Ferris wheels, grilled corn, and fried everything. The Mississippi State Fair is back y’all and this year we are celebrating 162 years of fair festivities. This year they’ve added a little something special, the Mississippi Frontier Village. This new attraction is a nod to the 1800s and will feature blacksmiths, train rides, pig races, pony rides, shows, entertainment, a petting zoo, and other exhibits. Daily activities will take place throughout the 105 acres of the Mississippi Fairgrounds and are sure to keep the whole family entertained from live music, amazing eats, pig races, petting zoo, biscuit eating competition, and so much more.
We don’t want to give everything away, but we do want to make sure you have the days marked on your calendar. The Mississippi State Fair runs Wednesday, October 6, through Sunday, October 17, with a gate admission price of $5.00 per person and parking fee of $5.00 per car. Children aged 6 and under will be admitted free of charge. Enjoy free admission every weekday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with the exception of Monday, October 11.

For more information on daily events including livestock shows, ride specials, visit
www.msstatefair.com online or download the Mississippi State Fair mobile app.

Mistletoe Cares

We’re getting closer and closer to the premier holiday shopping event of the year, Mistletoe Marketplace! But did you know that Mistletoe Marketplace is about more than getting a jump on your Christmas shopping? Mistletoe is an event that cares for the community, and philanthropy is at the very core of this iconic experience. One way “Mistletoe Cares” is through helping support the Junior League of Jackson’s two community funds: the Community Discretionary Fund (CDF), established to allow JLJ to respond to unexpected community partner needs, and the Community Assistance Fund (CAF), established to allow us to respond to funding requests received from the community.
Additionally, the rise and trials of COVID-19 have not been lost on the Junior League of Jackson and as always, they stand ready to support our local community. This year they intend to continue responding to the pandemic by providing support and emergency aid to those affected and will also continue to support their important community projects such as the Jackson Backpack Program and School Pantry Program, McClean Fletcher Center Outreach, Grief Support, and Food Projects, Helping Hands, Feed a Family, and a number of summer camps.
You see! When we say “guilt-free shopping,” we mean it.  Every ticket purchased helps support the mission behind the Junior League of Jackson and Mistletoe Marketplace; and if you can’t wait to get involved, head to their website. You can become a Friend of Mistletoe today by partnering with them and joining in their efforts to positively impact our community.

A Day in the Country 2021

What’s a family-friendly event that has food, music, artisans, crafts, wine tastings, children’s rides, and a famous 63-egg cake?! Chapel of the Cross’s A Day in the Country does! This community festival kicks off the first week of October and welcomes families near and far to visit the historic Chapel. A Day in the Country actually started as a restoration project. Back in 1979 members of the church and community saw the need to restore the nineteenth-century Chapel before it was forever lost to decay and vandalism. They partnered with The Department of the Interior who offered a $50,000 grant to assist in the restoration of the church, a registered historic landmark. However, in order for the restoration to take place, the congregation had to match the grant. From that, the festival was born, and the grounds have been completely renovated, updated, and maintained ever since. Now, A Day in the Country has become a community staple and the Chapel of the Cross uses the proceeds to support various ministries. It’s a great time to support your community, enjoy the crisp fall weather, and create beautiful family memories.  Trust us, it’s worth the trip! Mark your calendars for October 2nd for A Day in the Country. For more information about the festival or Chapel of the Cross, visit their website https://chapelofthecrossms.org/.
