The Natchez Balloon Festival is 35 years strong and just around the corner! In a few short weeks the skies over Natchez will be filled with hot air balloons and live music. This family-friendly event takes place at the historic Rosalie Mansion's high bluffs above the Mississippi River. And yes, you can, in fact, ride in a hot air balloon. Just imagine that amazing view! The fun isn’t reserved solely for the skies. There’s plenty of fun to be had on the ground! World-class musical entertainers will keep your feet moving while hot-air balloons drift silently overhead. Newk's Cares

We all know Newk’s Eatery as one of our favorite go-to’s for sandwiches, soups, and salads. But did you know that the restaurant also has its own philanthropy? Newk’s Cares was created to increase awareness and provide education about ovarian cancer. This teal movement is one that is very near and dear to the heart of the restaurant chain. After experiencing her own journey with the disease, Lori Newcomb committed herself to the cause. And Newk’s Cares was born.

Mrs. Newcomb’s goal for Newk’s Cares was to improve the rate of early diagnosis by helping fund research and create greater awareness about the early symptoms of ovarian cancer. She joined OCRA’s governing Board of Directors in 2015. While Lori lost her physical battle to ovarian cancer in February of 2019, her fight goes on. The people behind Newk’s Cares are continuing her mission to help all women and all future women affected by the disease.

Newk’s Eatery has committed to supporting ovarian cancer research and awareness. With restaurants across the south, they have garnered support from each community. The school year is in full swing. The schedule is packed, and you’re probably on day four of dry shampoo. You might have your kids’ activities sorted for the semester and the chore chart is in full swing, but you’ve missed your hair appointments and are well over due for a teeth cleaning. Or maybe you’ve launched your business and you’re so consumed with paperwork, social media, and business expenses that your annual doctor’s appointment has taken a back seat two too many times. Anyone feeling seen?!
We see you because we are you! The faces behind Inspiration Mississippi are mothers, entrepreneurs, freelancers, chauffeurs, multitaskers, cheerleaders, and so much more! We know how it feels to go and go until you’re on empty. But we are looking to change that. We need to take care of ourselves so we can be our best selves for our husbands, business partners, children, and co-workers. That’s why we have launched Get Inspired: A Petite Retreat, taking place in January 2022.
What is Get Inspired you ask? It is a two-day retreat designed with you in mind so that you can fill your planners with appointments, workouts, facials, and all the things needed to fill your cup. You’ll be able to schedule and organize your whole year while networking and being pampered. We will share with you 20+ amazing metro-area businesses that include everything we as women need from hair appointments to headshots and so much in between. Daydreamer Swing Beds

One of the things we’ve all probably learned as of late is that our homes need to be our safe spaces. They need to be a place where we can unwind and make memories with all the people we love. Kelly and Luke Spencer are the couple to call if you’re wanting to add a little something special to your space. They are the founders of Daydreamer Swing Beds, a Jackson-based company that uses woodworking and design to elevate any space.

The two fell into this passion while restoring their 1939 cottage together inside and out. As part of their update, they built their very first swing bed. “After building our first humble swing bed for our own screened-in porch years ago, we immediately felt compelled to share the experience,” Kelly shared. “We enjoyed and began using ours so much more than we could’ve imagined. We actually began living on our porch more than our living room! Ours quickly became a refuge of rest and peace for us. Our favorite spot to escape to and recharge.”

And now they’re crafting the same experience for others, one swing bed at a time. Daydreamer Swing Beds designs, custom builds and installs each swing. They’ll even decorate upon request! With an acute eye for detail, the two treat each build as if it were their own.

“Our goal is to create high-quality furniture pieces that will last a lifetime.” Daydreamer Swing Beds has several designs, sizes, and finishes to choose from but also welcome a challenge if there are any special requests. Everything is crafted locally, but they have installed swing beds across Mississippi as well as neighboring states. “God placed a dream and a desire in our hearts to create beautiful, furniture-quality swing beds for others, we’ve been blessed with the opportunity to work with some amazing people.”

Furry Fun Run

What could make a fun run more fun? How about running with your favorite fluff by your side. The District at Eastover, in partnership with Fleet Feet and Chipper & Coco Pet Shop, is hosting their first-ever Furry Fun Run. This is a 5k walk or jog that allows the perfect running partners, your dogs. The pet-friend 5K includes live music, food, and drinks on the green. So even if you’re not the fun run type, you can hang out and enjoy the puppy passers-by. The race begins promptly at 6 and is free to participate. Runners and walkers even get a complimentary beer courtesy of Southern Beverage Co. The Furry Fun Run takes place Thursday, September 2nd at the District at Eastover in Jackson, MS.
