This year’s Super Bowl is kicking off in one more sleep, and if you didn’t know who to root for, we suggest Sarah Thomas. The Pascagoula native was the first full-time, female NFL referee, and now she’ll be the first woman to referee in Super Bowl history. Mississippi has been saying, “Go girl!” for some time now. In 2016 she was inducted into the Pascagoula Athletic Hall of Fame, and her success story decks the halls of alma mater Pascagoula High School. Sarah will be the Down Judge, so you’ll get to see her do her thing at one of the lines of scrimmage. Whether you’re pulling for the Cheifs or the Buccaneers, I think we will all be rooting for Sarah Thomas.

Celebrate Black History Month

This week kicks off Black History month and we thought what better way to get involved and celebrate this portion of American history than a visit to the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum is the most recent extension of the Museum of Mississippi History, and it chronicles the stories of local civil rights movements that altered the state and nation. The Civil Rights Museum holds eight galleries complete with interactive displays that depict the struggle black Mississippians faced through decades of systemic oppression. But it’s not all struggle. As you progress through the year, the light of racial reconciliation is evident. Hope literally rings throughout the halls and corridors as “This Little Light of Mine” bellows from the very heart of the museum.
Ultimately, the museum pushes you to not only face our nation's dark history but also to take action to forge a brighter future. It’s definitely a sight to see, and right now weekend visits are free. Thanks to Nissian, weekend admission has been waved through the month of February, so get the whole family together for a visit in the coming weeks! The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum is open Monday - Friday from 9am-5pm and Sundays from 1-5pm. Galleries Grand Re-Opening

After years of planning, moving, a fire, planning, and moving again Galleries by Wendy and Julia Putt is opening and will be here to stay. The Fresh Cut founders are taking the event industry by storm. The next installment of their business is Galleries, a treasure trove of fresh and innovative rentals, styling and retail. The new space is decked out with sample settings for your next event. From glam, to whimsical, to contemporary, they have pieces for any and every occasion. "We are so lucky the Lord has been so faithful to us and our business," the owners share. "2020 tossed a lot our way, along with many others, and we are so thankful to get a second chance."
While you’re there, you can also shop for happies for your loved ones or even a “treat yourself” basket. You can even try new menu items from Fresh Cut catering. Styling, shopping, snacking... what more could you want?! The Galleries grand opening is coming up on February 15th and trust us when we say you won't want to miss it. If you’re looking for some covid safe activities, we’ve found the perfect thing for you. A quick scroll through Eventbrite brought us to the gem that is virtual game nights. Let’s Roam is a virtual game hosting site that allows you to set up trivia and other unique games with your friends. They’ve even set up a few events for Jackson locals to jump in on. In each event, you’ll take on five rounds of fun games that could include pictionary, charades, drinking games and more. The best part is that you can do this from the comfort of your home. You can even set up game rooms for your family to compete with other families in the neighborhood if you’re not ready to have the whole culdesac in your living room.
