It’s time to suit up. Okay, maybe not right now, but we know the time is coming. And we want to help our Mississippi men look their best at their next wedding or formal event. We know picking out the right formal wear can be tricky so we’ve created this little guide to help you out.

Months out vs Week-of:
Timing is key for any major event whether it’s prom, a wedding, or an important ceremony. If you can avoid last-minute shopping, we recommend picking out your tux or suit around two months out.  This allows ample time to have your formal wear tailored, and allows you some wiggle room if you’re #sheddingforthewedding. Say an event is sprung on you, or maybe you misplaced a save-the-date, chances are you can find something. The fit may not be perfection, but as long as you’re not drowning in fabric, you’ll look great!
Suit vs Tux:
The first thing you should ask yourself is, “How formal are we going?” If you’re still not sure, it’s always a good rule to follow your date’s lead. If they’ve gone super formal -- think red carpet, Oscar-level decked out -- then a tux is your best bet.  If they’ve gone more dialed back, you can dawn your favorite suit. No matter what, we recommend setting the tone as a couple and wearing what makes you both feel handsome and confident.

Online vs Instore:
You can probably guess what we’re going to say here… SHOP LOCAL. There are some amazing places you can pick out your formal wear or have pieces made. One of our favorites is Tuxes Too. Since 1990, they have been Mississippi’s premier source for men’s formal wear. Tuxes Too offers the finest in fashion from Michael Kors, Allure for Men, and Neil Allyn. What makes them stand out -- other than 30 years of quality service -- is their wide in-stock selection. Why is this important? Everything they have listed online is hanging in-store. That means, minimal wait time, and maximum service because you can have your fitting scheduled as soon as possible.
Well, there you go! Three tips to help you or your man look their James Bond-ish best. If you decide to take our advice and shop local, you can reach Tuxes Too through their website or give them a call at 601.981.0106. We can't wait to see y’all all dressed up!

New Mississippi State Flag

January has been one wild month, but the highlight for our fair state flies high above any craziness. Our new state flag was officially adopted on January 11th, 2021 by Governor Tate Reeves. After a long process of design submissions, voting, then voting again, the new "In God We Trust" state flag, featuring a magnolia flower and stars, was approved by 73% of Mississippi voters. "In Mississippi, there has been a prominent roadblock to unity. When many look at our former flag, they just saw a symbol of the state and heritage they loved. But many felt dismissed because of that flag. That is not a firm foundation for our state," Reeves shared moments before ratifying the new pennant. "Today, we turn the page. We commit our former flag to history, and we commit ourselves to the business of the future. It is one small effort to unify, but it is done in good faith." What a page turn for our beloved Mississippi! We are a state comprised of artists, educators, politicians, culinary geniuses, and so much more. And as we continue to take steps of unity, only time will tell of greatness that is to come. Mississippi, we love you.

We all have set some new years resolutions, and if one of yours is to step up your self-care game, then we have some ideas for you. With all the craziness going on, we suggest a little escape, so say it with us: STAYCATION. “What is a staycation,” you’re probably asking yourself. A staycation or holistay is a time to vacation in your hometown without spending boo-coo dollars on a flight, rental car, and baggage fees. Maybe there’s a cute BnB you and your hubby have wanted to check out, or there’s a brand new restaurant you’ve been dying to try after you finish an escape room. Whatever the activities are, you want to do them all and make sure you top your weekend off with rest and pampering.  If you find yourself in the Jackson-metro area we suggest checking into the Westin.

The Westin Jackson is your one-stop-shop for the ideal retreat. They are taking hospitality to the next level starting with their luxurious rooms. We all know the first thing you’ll want to do once you check-in is plop on their cloud-like beds and nuzzle into every fluffy pillow they have to offer. After you’ve embraced the coziness, you can book your favorite spa treatment at the Westin’s little oasis, Soul Spa. We suggest the Sweet Tea Surrender, crafted to soothe your tired, aching back, feet, and legs after wrangling children all 2020.
Once you’ve reached peak pampering, make a reservation at the Westin’s Estelle Wine Bar & Bistro. Trust us when we say your tastebuds will be dancing. Not only does Estelle have mouth-watering, farm-to-table offerings, they also have an extensive wine and cocktail list that’s sure to pair with your meal perfectly. Sounds dreamy, we know! After your meal, order an extra drink to your room and request that late check-out. You know you’re going to want to sleep in and enjoy breakfast in bed. It’s the perfect way to end your getaway.

School’s out, the kids are home and you’re looking for something fun to do with them during the break.  Well, look no further than the Mississippi Children’s Museum’s holiday exhibit, Journey to the North Pole. The Gertrude C. Ford Exhibition Hall has been transformed into our very own north pole village complete with train cars, dazzling lights, a 45-foot slide, and a sock skating rink. While a spin on the slide is reserved for little ones, we know you’ll enjoy seeing their smiles the whole way down. Journey to the North Pole is open through January 4th. All you have to do is bring your littles and remember to pack some good sliding socks. For more information, head to the Mississippi Children’s Museum’s website.
