Answer:
(Tucker): The Provision Project is a nonprofit organization to help homeless people in the Jackson, Mississippi area. We got the idea to do this a few years ago, when we went on a trip with Mom to New Orleans. While we were there, we noticed how many homeless people were around us, and our hearts went out to them. We wanted to help in some way.
(Macy): I always want to help anyone and everyone. On the way home, I kept bringing it up! We decided that there were people in Jackson that needed help, too, and we wanted to help them.
(Tucker): So on the way home from New Orleans, we thought of things we could do to help the homeless right there where we lived. We knew they would need things for the outdoors, like blankets, thermoses, clean socks, clothes, food, and all kinds of things that we normally don't think about. Mom suggested that we call a local charity organization and see what was really needed, and that's what we did! We called We Will Go Ministries, who gave us a long list of needed items. We did our first drive which was very successful.
(Macy): We collected hygiene products, new socks, clothing, thermoses, and white t-shirts for them, and when we delivered, it made me so happy because it made them happy!
Question: What is the vision of the Provision Project?
Answer:
We want to be able to help homeless people all around Mississippi. Our hope is that we can inspire other kids and families to do the same thing we are doing. They can either join us in our collection drives, or find a favorite charity organization or cause, and start their own collection drives or fundraisers! We want to encourage others to act - whether it's with us or on their own. The more giving we can all do, the better off we all will be.
Answer:
(Macy): Definitely Mom! She is very giving and helpful, and she is the one who really let me help. When I had this idea, she was the one who said "let's do it!" I am so grateful for her because she is so sweet and an amazing mom, and I want to be like that too.
(Tucker): That's a hard question! There are so many people who inspire me. But the people who inspire me most are the people we get to help. Sometimes we get to meet the people we are helping, and to see them so happy and grateful for what we are giving, it really motivates us to keep doing what we are doing.
Question: What are you currently working on? How can we get involved?
Answer:
The Provision Project has drives all the time! We try and do a new one every month, but the ones that we have done repeatedly and will continue to take donations for all the time are The Grace House and Shower Power of Mississippi. These organizations have a steady stream of new people they are helping all the time, and the needs never end. We have a website which takes you to our Facebook page where you can keep up with the latest happenings and donation drives: www.theprovisionproject.com
